Duration of the project:

1996-2002, 2005

Place of the event:

Colorado, USA

Objective:

International educational program focused on leadership skills for students. The goal was to encourage them to accept responsibility in their home communities and allow them to learn about other cultures.

Participants:

100 international studenets from all around the world (14 countries) in the 15 – 17 age group

Description:

Under the umbrella of Leadership Institute at the University of Colorado David A. French, the man behind the birth of Orbis Institute, started the idea of world camps.

In 2005 we prepared the program as Orbis Institute. Its 36 young participants came from 13 countries – Colombia, El Salvador, England, Ethiopia, China, Mexico, Iraq, Mongolia, Peru, Russia, Somalia, the US and Slovakia.

The students were educated under the guidance of experts from various disciplines (international issues, leadership, communication and intercultural trainings). They learned the principles of leadership in the historical context of several cultures and worked on prepared topics with their peers in discussion groups. A part of the program was teambuilding through experience in a natural environment, including dealing with rope obstacles and games aimed at solving problems. The output of the program was the preparation of a plan, which integrated the acquired principles of general leadership and which they could apply in their own communities.
