Objective:

To bring High School Students from Iraq to Denver, Colorado for a summer leadership conference. The objective was to assist the Iraq students in learning about democracy and meet to both government and business leaders. The goal was for them to return to Iraq and become effective leaders in their community and promote peace.International educational program focused on leadership skills for high-school students. The goal was to encourage them to accept responsibility in their home communities and allow them to learn about other cultures.

Participants:

20 students from High Schools in various areas of Iraq.

Partners:

U.S Embassy, Iraq; Department of State, USA; World Learning, Washington DC; City of Parker, Colorado and the Council of Regional Governments

Description:

The program involved the students meeting with peer students in Colorado and learning about their respective cultures.
There were seminars on leadership styles, types of governments and religions in the world, and the understanding ways to build peace in Iraq. Discussions were held about the differences of the Sunni and the Shiites. The students had home stays and visited many cultural sites to understand the history of the USA and a study of intercultural differences.
